How does it work?

Each day you will receive a Mission via the email you register with.  The Mission will include some background information you can use to ask questions, start discussions or for intentional teaching moments.

There are also a range of prompts, activities or possibilities for play, that can be adapted for children up to the age of 12.

There is also a list of further resources including videos and websites if you want to go a bit deeper or explore further.

There will also be additional posts relating to the day's Mission featured on the Early Years Sustainability Facebook Group.  Share your experiences, stories and questions here too.

But what if I just can't do it right now?

If the Challenge Missions don't fit in with your program or the children's interests right now, you can still register and keep them handy for another time.  Or, you can use them as a discussion starter for some team professional development.  Do a bit of brainstorming, think about how you could respond to the Mission.  What resources could you use? Are there books in your library you could incorporate? Songs you know? Resources available?  How could you take the ideas presented and extend the learning?  Do any of these suggestions spark an idea for a Project or investigation?

How will the Challenge help you to embed sustainability?

By engaging your team, children and families in conversations and experiences based on sustainability concepts - such as biodiversity protection, ecosystems, stewardship, etc. you are developing midsets, skillsets and toolsets that will support further engagement, discussion and action towards embedding sustainability.

This Challenge is a fun way to start a conversation you can build on and explore.  It will provide an opportunity to identify the skills and interests of your team and community.  If you'd like more information on how you can engage others in your sustainability programs check out our Engaging Others in Sustainability Tip Sheet.
