What's Inside the Toolbox?
There are currently 14 tools in the toolbox, all specifically designed to support you and your team as you build your skills and knowledge, and work towards embedding sustainability in your setting. They can be used in many ways, at different times depending on your audience or where you are on the journey. Each tool is practical, adaptable and will challenge your thinking about sustainability and how you can embed it in your setting.

I love this toolbox!!! I have used it to set challenges for my team as I’m the sustainability warrior at work. Educating the children is absolutely the primary reason for doing this but in order for it to happen effectively my team needed to be educated first. I love how it relates to STEM all through the toolbox also. The checklists I found very helpful.
We have a fruit and veggie garden at work along with chickens. Each day the children ranging from babies to 5yr olds take turn in looking after both of these things. In their rooms they collect scraps, we have used emojis on the toilets to children can save water where possible so they know which button to press, collect scrap paper and reuse it. The list goes on. I’m so proud of my team and this resource has helped me a lot.

The Toolbox has been a great resource in helping our service become more knowledgeable about the National Quality Framework and prepare for rating and assessment. The different guides, tips, themes and concepts have provided some great programming strategies and ideas for our educators. The Educators Guide to the Language of Sustainability has assisted educators with their writing skills in using sustainability language when developing plans, writing observations and assessing learning and documenting children’s learning. There are some awesome tools for engaging educators, teams and families to become more reflective and collaborative through embedded sustainable practices. The Sustainability Checklists have assisted all of our team to reflect on their own work spaces and identify strengths and areas of improvement and develop action plans to foster embedded practice within their own working environment. This information will contribute to our continuous Quality Improvement Plan.
